Dermaplaning procedures are considered relatively safe and effective for nearly all skin types and tones. Women and men with severe acne may not be suited for this procedure. The best candidates for the dermaplaning procedure:
Dermaplaning procedures are typically completed on an outpatient basis in our office. After the skin is cleaned, the treatment will begin with a gentle skimming of the surface of the face with a facial blade. The technician will scrape the treatment area many times until the face has been entirely treated. The amount of time needed will vary, depending on whether part of or the entire face will be addressed. At a consultation beforehand, Dr. David M. Hartman will explain the process of dermaplaning to you.
In the hours following your dermaplaning treatment, you can expect your face to be pinkish. This is a normal reaction that will subside in the coming days. It is not uncommon for some peeling to occur as the skin heals. But it's important not to scratch — you should let the skin fall off naturally. Patients will need to avoid prolonged sun exposure because the face will be very sensitive in the days following your treatment. Patients can expect results quickly as dermaplaning reveals smoother, softer skin right away. In the interest of protecting your newly revealed skin, our team will discuss an improved skin care routine with you, including the regular application of sunscreen.
