Give Your Eyelids a New Start

What is Blepharoplasty?

The aging process can bring with it a loss of elasticity in the skin. Upper eyelid sagging creates a hooded appearance, and severe cases can even impair an individual’s peripheral vision. Sagging in the lower eyelids results in the formation of undereye bags and wrinkles. Also known as eyelid rejuvenation surgery or an eyelid lift, a blepharoplasty can focus on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, depending on your individual concerns. There are many beauty products and cosmetics that promise to revitalize this sensitive area, but blepharoplasty surgery creates more dynamic results that last by:

  • Precisely removing excess skin
  • Carefully sculpting misplaced or excessive fat pads
  • Tightening and rejuvenating eyelid skin and the underlying dermis.

Rejuvenate Without Worry

What are the benefits of Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty procedures are beneficial for removing excess skin around the eyelids and for providing a more rejuvenated and refreshed appearance. Eyelid surgeries are safe, with a relatively short recovery period and long-lasting results. They are also more affordable than many other plastic surgeries. The best way to determine if blepharoplasty is ideal to achieve your aesthetic goals is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Hartman and our medical team. We will evaluate your health, medical history, and preferences and discuss treatment options that are right for you.

Dr. Hartman is regarded among the most experienced New Philadelphia Blepharoplasty providers.

Unique Plans For Unique Patients

Your Blepharoplasty Procedure

The exact details of your blepharoplasty will depend on your conditions, preferences, and aesthetic goals. Typically, incisions are hidden in the natural creases of your eyelids to minimize visible scarring. In our surgeries, these incisions and tiny sutures used in their closure are placed with the assistance of an operative microscope. If there is excessive fat under the eyelids, this may be removed very conservatively (taking just the right amount but not too much), often using a tiny laser or surgical radiofrequency devices. The entire procedure should take around one to two hours. While it is a quick procedure, it is recommended that you take the day off of work and not undergo any strenuous activity.

Your Long-Awaited Look

Blepharoplasty Results

You will see your full blepharoplasty results around two to four weeks after your procedure. You will notice a bit of swelling and potential bruising around the incision areas for up to two weeks post-procedure, but it should fade by the end of the second week. You will notice a more rejuvenated, well-rested look after your procedure. Long-term maintenance of the skin is essential to ensuring blepharoplasty results last. The use of retinol and sunscreen are important measures to integrate into your daily skincare routine. BOTOX® or Dysport® can also help to manage dynamic wrinkles if needed.

Enhancement Relies on Your Health

Blepharoplasty Recovery and Aftercare

Eyelid skin tends to heal quite quickly. When healed, there are rarely any perceptible signs of surgery to casual observers. Dr. Hartman performs blepharoplasty with local anesthesia and ProNox, which spares patients from the “hangover” of general anesthesia. After a blepharoplasty, any discomfort can be easily managed with cool compresses. Minimal over-the-counter pain medicine is absolutely sufficient. Dr. Hartman will monitor recovery through follow-up appointments and advise you on when to safely return to work and normal activities.

All surgical patients are added to a HIPAA-Compliant text thread, immediately following surgery, with Dr. Hartman, his patient care coordinator and clinical staff. All post-operative questions/concerns will be addressed 24/7. Recovery can be different for every patient, but bruising and swelling rarely last beyond a week. The day after a blepharoplasty procedure, patients start taking gentle daily showers followed by the application of ointment to the tiny incision sites. They may also start taking brisk walks outdoors the next day. Sutures are removed the seventh day after surgery. The doctor will schedule a post-op appointment with you for one week after your procedure. This way, we can check in and make sure that you are healing well and answer any questions you may have about recovery.

Blepharoplasty Frequently Asked Questions

Will eyelid surgery cause my face to look unnatural?

As with any cosmetic facial surgery, one of the central questions of a blepharoplasty is: what to remove and what to leave? Modern eyelid surgical technique is much more focused on preservation and conservation. Outstanding results in aesthetic surgery will draw comments such as, “Wow, you look great!” with no suspicion that any eyelid procedure was ever performed because the results look completely natural and harmonious with the rest of the face. We strive for this reaction from all of our patients and focus more on enhancing what you already have rather than shaping you into a different person - There is only one you, and we want to preserve that! We take great care in only tightening the face and eyes enough to revitalize your complexion without making you look unnatural.

Should I get eyelid surgery, a brow lift, or both?

Upper eyelid hooding is almost always contributed to by the descent of the eyebrow/forehead as a result of years in the sun and the cumulative effects of gravity on the forehead's soft tissue. When this is the case, combining an upper blepharoplasty with a brow lift or forehead lift provides distinct advantages:

  1. Correction of forehead lines/wrinkles, as well as the “angry 11s” between the eyebrows
  2. Improvements in the brows’ shape and position
  3. Alleviation of upper lid hooding from the heaviness of the brows
  4. Lowering of the hairline to a more youthful position, in cases of receding hairlines

Additional Reading

On the other hand, some younger patients may already have beautiful symmetric brows with minimal forehead wrinkles. These patients may be best suited to focus on just the eyelids. Some may just have heavy brows with minimal upper lid hooding; for those patients, a brow lift alone is enough. At our practice, Brow Lift and blepharoplasty procedures are typically combined into packages with radiofrequency microneedling, photorejuvenation, and/or fractional CO2 laser skin resurfacing to improve skin thickness, tightness, and youthfulness.

What else could I pair my blepharoplasty with?

Some Blepharoplasty patients also choose to rejuvenate the lower half of their face and neck, and combining some type of facelift with these upper facial rejuvenation procedures can result in even more exceptional pricing. Schedule your consultation at Fine Arts Skin & Laser today and discover the best treatment and procedure package for you.

How Much Does a Blepharoplasty Cost?

While insurance will not cover a Blepharoplasty unless it is medically necessary, Fine Arts Skin & Laser offers financing options for patient convenience. The general price range for blepharoplasty is $4500-7000. Schedule your consultation to get more accurate pricing for your particular procedure.
