The most important consideration for recovery time tends to be the possibility of bruising and swelling. Some Brow Lift patients only bruise minimally and return to their regular activities in three to five days, while others may have more noticeable bruising and elect to take one to two weeks off. Full recovery takes about two to four weeks.
We encourage walks and light activity starting the next day. You should try to avoid strenuous activity for about three weeks. Discomfort after the procedure is generally very easy to manage. We typically recommend over-the-counter products such as acetaminophen (Tylenol®) or ibuprofen (Motrin®) as that is all that is needed for any post-procedure discomfort. Cold compresses may further alleviate possible discomfort, and we recommend the daily application of ointment to the incisions. Keeping your head elevated (above your heart) while resting or sleeping may reduce the possibility of bruising and swelling.
Botox Cosmetic is an FDA-approved solution to soften the intra-eyebrow “angry 11s,” horizontal forehead wrinkles, and crow’s feet at the outer corners of the eyes. Botox- type products (neuromodulators) generally last three to four months and must be repeated to maintain results. However, to get an actual lift and a lasting improvement of the eyebrow and eyelids, you will want to consider a brow lift. A youthful and aesthetically balanced eyebrow typically possesses an arch that is raised near the center and a tail that tapers slightly downward. As we age, the brows descend, and the arch starts to flatten. It involves no skin removal. A transfollicular or hairline brow lift, on the other hand, uses a single incision just behind the hairline of the scalp to lift the tissues so the resulting redundant skin is removed - thus preserving or potentially even lowering a receding hairline
The position of the hairline is a very important consideration with a brow lift. With a “double-beveled” incision placed a quarter of an inch behind the forehead hairline, the transfollicular brow lift encourages hair growth in front of incisions to further camouflage them. Although the endoscopic approach may have some advantages in terms of quicker recovery, it also may shift the actual hairline upwards along with the brows. If you want a stable or lowered hairline, the transfollicular brow lift may be more appropriate.
